The electric version of the Ford Focus, to be released next year, will be the first car to benefit from a collaboration between Ford and Microsoft that uses wireless connectivity to make it easier (and presumably less costly) to charge electric vehicles.
The partnership, announced at the New York auto show, centers on Microsoft's existing "cloud-based" Hohm system for managing home utility bills. Ford is the first automaker to tie in to the Hohm system, but it is not an exclusive arrangement, said Derrick Kuzak, a Ford group vice president for global product development.
